Susan is one of the region’s most accomplished grant writers. She has raised millions of dollars for general operating support and special projects through carefully crafted grant proposals that shine a light on an agency’s mission and include measureable goals and objectives, timelines, and budgets. She links the interests of foundations with the vision of a nonprofit agency and diligently matches the written proposal with the foundation’s guidelines, including pesky details like word counts, page limits, and attachments. |
In 1988, when she was the ED/Development Director for a newly formed nonprofit, Susan wrote her first proposal. After ten years, she left that position and found her niche using her passion for writing as a means to get funding for compelling nonprofit causes. Over the years, she has raised more than $6 million for education, after-school programs, mental health, community organizing, affordable housing, interfaith efforts, prison reform, performing arts, and international water, food, and health issues, among others.
Susan earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Mankato State University and after teaching high school English in rural, inner-city, and suburban high schools, she went on to get a Master’s Degree in Speech Communication at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
